With shrinking school budgets and a growing awareness of the value of technology in the classroom, we've all wondered: Where will the money come from? flow will innovative teachers receive the recognition and support they deserve? In this department, we bring you up to date on resources to help you stretch your school budget and find the support necessary to fund and implement your technology dreams,

October 1999 is the 13th annual Computer Learning Month. There are several contests to celebrate:

* To qualify for the Computer Learning Month Celebration Sweepstakes, hold a Computer Learning Month event in your community this month. One Grand Prize winner will be drawn at random to receive an Apple iBook computer. His/her school will also receive a Grand Prize of an Apple iBook computer. Six leaders and their schools will be drawn at random to receive software. Deadline for entering the Celebration Sweepstakes is November 30.

* Computer Learning Month competitions for educators include Building Effective Roadmaps for the Information Superhighway and Winning Workshops and Programs for Staff Development. Sponsored by N2H2, Building Effective Roadmaps will be offering a Fall Lesson Plan Contest that focuses on teaching children an aspect of doing research on the Internet or helping them to develop information literacy skills, and a Spring Curriculum Contest for original curriculum (multiple lesson plans and teaching units) teaching students Internet research and information literacy skills. The Fall Contest entry deadline is November 30 and the Spring Contest, April 1. Three educators and their schools in the fall and the spring contests will each win a Windows-compatible computer; second prize is a CD-ROM recorder, and third prize is a $100 gift certificate for software.

* By submitting a description of an original professional development workshop, program, and/ or materials, educators can enter the Winning Workshops and Programs for Staff Development competition. One Grand Prize-winning educator and his/her school will each win an Apple iBook computer with second prizes of software being awarded to six educators and their schools. The deadline for submitting an entry is November 30.

* The Fall Our Town Home Page Sweepstakes calls for students to get involved in developing a Web site for their town. …
