For a $20 annual membership fee, individuals can adopt a manatee from SMC. Classrooms can adopt a manatee for only $10. SMC, established in 1981 by Sen. Bob Graham (D-Fla.) and singer Jimmy Buffet, gets its primary funding from the Adopt-A-Manatee program.
