Ovid Enables Online Linking between BIOSIS Previews and Journals@Ovid

Article excerpt

Ovid Technologies, Inc. has announced the implementation of extensive hyperlinking between BIOSIS Previews and Journals@Ovid, Ovid's aggregated database of hundreds of scientific, technical, and medical journals. Links from the U.S. National Library of Medicine databases AIDSline, CancerLit, HealthStar, and BioethicsLine have also recently been added.

Ovid first implemented links between its bibliographic and full-text databases in 1995 with the release of the Core Biomedical Collection, a full-text database consisting of 15 leading biomedical journals. Since then, hundreds more journals have been added to Ovid's catalog of full text, with over 1 million links available among full-text articles and the MEDLINE, CINAHL, and PsycINFO databases. Links to Current Contents and EMBASE will be available next year.

As well as being able to start searches in BIOSIS Previews and go directly to the full text, Ovid's links allow users to go from one full-text article to another via the references in that article. This means they can explore an author's research or get more background information on a topic. The references in the full-text articles also link back to bibliographic citations. To all its Journals@Ovid customers, Ovid is making links from Journals@Ovid to BIOSIS Previews available completely free of charge, regardless of whether they subscribe to BIOSIS Previews itself (although they will not be able to search BIOSIS Previews directly). …
