BiblioData's Price Watcher Honors DJRBI with Award

BiblioData, publisher of Price Watcher, has awarded Dow Jones Reuters Business Interactive (now Factiva--see Barbara Quint's NewsBreak on page 1) its first annual Tip of the Hat Award for unambiguous pricing and outstanding customer service.

According to the announcement, the Tip of the Hat Award recognizes data providers that demonstrate a clear understanding of the pricing issues facing today's information professionals. Criteria include innovative pricing, clear and predictable pricing plans, and the ability to work with enterprisewide requirements.

The winner was selected by the BiblioData staff, with input from readers of its publications. A plaque was presented to Ann Lee, director of the Enterprise Rollout Program for Dow Jones Reuters Business Interactive, by Linda Cooper, editor of BiblioData's Price Watcher, and Ruth Orenstein, publisher and president of BiblioData, at the Online World Conference in October.

In 1996, Dow Jones Interactive introduced new pay-as-you-go pricing that was simple to understand. You paid for exactly what you used. For a small annual fee, you were able to search for free, and even view headlines and lead sentences at no charge. You paid for the document when you actually displayed it.

While introducing and supporting this pricing model, Dow Jones Interactive also continued to work closely with customers on flat-fee pricing models that have been well received. …
