Article excerpt

Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) and the American Society for Information Science (ASIS) have announced that they are accepting proposals for the 2000 ISI/ASIS Citation Analysis Research Grant, which supports research based on citation analysis by encouraging and assisting individuals with their research.

Citation analysis is broadly defined, including, but not limited to, analyses using resources developed by ISI. The grant can be made for research underway as well as for new research proposed. The grant consists of a $3,000 award and $500 travel reimbursement to the ASIS Annual Meeting.

"ISI is delighted to offer this grant to further research in the area of citation analysis," said Vin Caraher, senior vice president of academic and government markets at ISI. "In the past few years, we have awarded funding to outstanding researchers who have made substantial developments in this area of scholarship."

Proposals should include the following: name, address, affiliation, and brief biography of applicant(s); brief statement of the research problem not to exceed a maximum of 1,000 words (double-spaced); description of the research design and methodology, including details of how citation data will be used; and discussion of the expected impact of the research results. Proposals may be submitted in hard copy, via e-mail, or by fax.

Any individual is eligible to apply. Submissions are due by June 1,2000, and should be directed to ISI/ASIS Citation Analysis Research Grant, Attn: Helen Atkins, Institute for Scientific Information, 3501 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104. Atkins can be reached via e-mail at or by fax at 215/387-4706.
