The information in this department is provided by Information Resources Inc. (IRI), a marketing research and software company based in Chicago. The sales data on specific OTC and HBC categories are based on scanning data collected from drugstores, food stores, and mass-merchandiser outlets. IRI's data for this report are collected from a sample of 11,000 supermarkets, more than 7,500 drugstores, and 250 mass-merchandisers.

Sales in the first-aid ointments/ antiseptics category increased during the 52 weeks ending Dec. 6, 1998, according to Information Resources Inc., Chicago. Total dollar sales reached $364 million, showing a 3.3% increase. Drugstore sales reached $171 million, showing a 2.9% hike. Mass-merchandisers saw their sales jump 6.4%. Their total sales were $91 million.
