APPOINTMENTS

David W. Ashman has been named manager of the maintenance and development bureau for the Long Beach (Calif.) Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine. Ashman will succeed Phil T. Hester, who was named the department's director in December 1998. Ashman joined the Long Beach staff in 1997 as the bureau's superintendent of facilities and marine maintenance. His new responsibilities will include the management of a $15.2 million annual budget; direction and evaluation of 157 employees; custodial and grounds maintenance of the department's 62 parks, 26 community centers, and sports fields; and maintenance and support operations for city beaches and waterways, including the new Queensway Bay development.

The Lake County (Ill.) Forest Preserve District has announced that Tom Hahn will head its newly created Land Preservation and Special Projects department. Hahn brings to the district 24 years of multifaceted experience in planning, land preservation and acquisition, and open space planning and administration, including 16 years of service as executive director of CorLands and associate director of the Openlands project. …
