Susan Burnett Begins Term as Chair-Elect

On January 1, 2000, three new directors and a chair-elect begin their terms on the ASTD board of directors. Susan Burnett has been named by the National Nominating Committee as 2000 chair-elect of the board. She will assume the position of chair of the board in 2001. The committee also selected Sheila T. Harrell, Katherine E. Holt, and Robert J. Maple to three-year terms. In addition to these new members, the board will appoint one director to serve on the 2000-2002 board.

Susan Burnett just completed three years as a director on the ASTD board during which time she led the Strategic Directions Committee and served as an officer of the society. She is director of global education development for Hewlett-Packard Company in Palo Alto, California. Prior to this position, she was manager of organization effectiveness for the company's business PC organization and was on staff to the CEO and executive committee to facilitate changes needed for double-digit growth of the company. Burnett's 18-year career at Hewlett-Packard has spanned a variety of management positions, including leading executive development, managing sales training, and starting the marketing education function. She also held a line position as marketing services manager responsible for worldwide computer sales force communications, competitive analysis, field development, and product training.

Sheila T. Harrell is vice president, customer service strategic planning and analysis for the Federal Express Corporation in Memphis, Tennessee. …
