If you perform outside the United States, you'll encounter issues involving power supplies and connectors that could be anything from a minor inconvenience to a gig killer. When buying a piece of gear, it's prudent to make sure it can function anywhere in the world.

The best option is gear with detachable power cords that sense the line voltage and automatically switch to the correct operating voltage. When you get off the plane, find an electrical supply store, buy a power cord with the right connector, and you're good to go. The next best thing is equipment that includes a switch for the desired line voltage--although this may be inside the unit and will require disassembly to make the adjustment. Just remember to reset the switch when you return home, or you'll fry your equipment.

If the power cord is not detachable, you'll need plug adapters for different outlets. As England has different outlets than the rest of Europe, be sure to carry an assortment. …
