SilverPlatter Information, Inc. has announced that the EMBASE Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) database will soon be available on CD-ROM and via the Internet. SilverPlatter has also announced three H.W. Wilson databases that will be available on CD and on the Internet: Wilson Applied Science & Technology Full Text, Wilson Library Literature & Information Sciences Full Text, and Wilson Art Full Text.
The EBM database is a subset of Elsevier Science's EMBASE, a comprehensive pharmacological and biomedical database renowned for extensive indexing of drug information. The new EBM product is designed to meet the needs of those requiring access to proven clinical information. EMBASE Evidence Based Medicine will allow researchers and clinicians to formulate a clear clinical question from a patient's problem; search the literature or relevant clinical articles; evaluate the evidence for its validity and usefulness; and implement useful findings in clinical practice.
According to the announcement, the database is available only from SilverPlatter. It will be updated quarterly and includes more than 400,000 records from journals, papers, presentations, and conference proceedings from around the world.
"Clinical researchers will appreciate the EMBASE Evidence Based Medicine data in SilverPlatter's easy-to-use SPIRS interface," said Kristen Burch, Elsevier product manager.
The EMBASE EBM database will also be SilverLinker-enabled, which means that users will be able to link from the bibliographic citation to the article if the institution subscribes to that publication, or link to document delivery services or interlibrary loan (ILL). The product will also make use of the EMTREE Thesaurus, which makes searching the database for relevant material easier.
