Capital Radio has poached Linda Smith, MediaVest's commercial director, to head its in-house sales business.

Smith will take up the role of managing director of Capital Radio Advertising in April. She replaces Fru Hazlitt, who was responsible for setting up the operation in 1997. Hazlitt is moving to Yahoo! as European sales director.

Smith will take on a broader role than her predecessor by working with the internet division, Capital Interactive, which the company intends to invest in significantly over the next few years. It will pump [pounds]5.5m into the division this year. Her remit will also include responsibility for marketing the Pepsi Chart Show and Newslink, which are contracted to Capital.

Capital Radio Advertising generates in excess of [pounds]lOOm of national advertising revenue a year. It accounts for about 80% of the group's turnover. Smith will manage 130 employees, the largest unit in the group. She will report to Capital Radio Group commercial director, Paul Davies. …
