I am sick and tired of hearing how call centres are modern-day sweatshops, or how hard it is to retain staff and how poorly treated and badly paid they are. It's good to see that no one is generalising about our industry.

Do any of these critics actually visit call centres, or do they just regurgitate what the last article or critic said, add a bit more drama and issue their comments about what a rotten working environment a call centre is? If the only call centres critics see are the large, barn-like ones on industrial estates, seating hundreds of agents lined up like battery hens, then it is no surprise that this is the misconception of the industry.

The majority of critics passing these harsh comments are tarnishing all call centres with the same brush. It is not only incredibly insulting to organisations which work hard at ensuring their call centres are great places to work, but also damaging to the fastest growing industry in the UK.
