The Premier League is to launch an online football gambling game, with a [pounds]15m budget, which will pose a new challenge to pools companies.

The game, called Score, has been developed by Skill Factor Design and is being positioned as a cross between football pools and the lottery.

It can be found at www.premscore.com from tomorrow (Thursday) and the company hopes to use the nation's obsession with football to generate massive sales.

For a small fee, online punters can predict the results of six weekend Premier League games. If they accurately predict three or more results, they stand to win a cash pay-out of thousands.

A spokesman for the Premier League said the game was something that could work very well but declined to comment further ahead of the official launch.

Skill Factor Design has hired PR agency Freud Communications, design company The Clinic, and media specialist Carat, to launch the game to consumers later this month. …
