BT is to rebrand 4000 Photo Me booths across the country as 'PhotoPlanet' multimedia kiosks early next year, and will target advertisers that want to offer e-commerce and other services to users of the kiosks.

The move is the result of a joint venture between BT Internet and Multimedia Services, and Photo Me, announced earlier this year.

BT has a raft of multimedia services which can be accessed through the kiosks.

As well as generating photographs, PhotoPlanet will allow customers to access the net through a PhotoPlanet portal, scan in and e-mail photographs, create web pages and use a free e-mail service.

BT plans to link with content partners, which will advertise their services via a menu in the booth. This can be viewed either on or offline.

The user will then press a 'hot' button to purchase from that supplier either by telephone or internet.

This service will be available to advertisers for [pounds]30 per month per booth.

Advertisers will also be able to book 30-second ads, which will then run on a looped video tape inside the booth. There will be poster spade on the side of the kiosks.

BT will start by rebranding ten kiosks in January for a two-month trial, after which it will assess the general effectiveness of the services. …
