Amid the flurry of economic forecasts for 2000, Dr. John J. Pepin offers a different kind of forecast. Pepin, the new dean of the Fogelman College of Business and Economics at The University of Memphis, predicts ambitious and admirable gains for the College in the new millennium.

Pepin has already established the direction in which he wants the College to go: outward. He plans to take to the streets to increase awareness of and pride for the College in the community. "The community doesn't know our assets or our professors' expertise," Pepin said. "We're the greatest secret in Memphis."

The new dean plans to unveil his goals for the College through personal appearances in the community and establishing himself as a familiar face about town. One of Pepin's main projects will be to develop a multimedia presentation with sections highlighting the College and each of its areas of specialization. Pepin will deliver this presentation to local businesses and organizations in an effort to show the community the College's strong points and advantages. Each area of the College would be able to use its section as a separate presentation. Pepin also plans to visit high schools and campuses to recruit students for the College. "I'm not just going to sit behind my desk," Pepin said. "I'm going to get out there and talk to people."

However, Pepin's involvement does not stop at the College's doorstep. He is equally visible inside the College. Each day, he walks the College's halls, waving hello and chatting with faculty members. …
