COVER DESIGN

By making the "header" coverlines bigger and bolder and the logo lighter, they've taken away some of the logo's presence. The new logo has a more elegant and reserved look, but boldness has been sacrificed. A reduction in variables within coverline treatment is a good thing. I wish the coverlines could be smaller; having a bit of restraint can make for a bolder impression.

TYPOGRAPHY/GRAPHICS

Improved overall, particularly in the listings area. It appears as if the typographic variables have been minimized in the new design, which does not have to make for a boring approach. I like the way some thematic elements remain consistent within features--it helps to hold them together.

ACCESSIBILITY

Not much of a difference from the "before," in that the pacing and general approach to organizing information on the pages seems unchanged.

COMMENTS

Not a top-to-bottom overhaul, but rather an updating and refinement. These are important to do periodically, as publications evolve, visually and editorially. The publication has adjusted some things for the better, while keeping the overall sensibility the same. Other than observing a change in the logo, I doubt most people will notice. That's not necessarily a bad thing.
