Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! We know that many of you have spent the summer recharging your batteries and preparing for this school year. For many, that may have included professional development on ways to meet the varied needs of the learners in your classroom. This journal is dedicated to assisting you in meeting the needs of your learners while working within a variety of classroom settings and resources.

The beginning of each school year brings renewed energy and the potential for growth in both our students and ourselves. The positive vibes in each school are palpable as teachers prepare for their students and as students enter their classroom eager to see what they will be expected to learn during the year. Parents are excited to hear what their child will be experiencing and learning in each class. As educators, this is our great opportunity to seize the moment by encouraging our students to be collaborative learners within our classrooms. Great teachers understand that they are presented with a variety of student strengths and needs. It is through activities that promote learning through critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication that we see our students gain new concepts and become students who are ready for all future opportunities.

This year our journal will be focused on Learning Opportunities for both you and your students. This particular issue is centered on flexibility. This can be flexibility when it comes to the experiences that you provide to your diverse learners, in meeting the needs of your learners in various classroom settings and environments, or in the amount of resources that you may have available to you as you plan for instruction. …
