Kathleen Glasgow is already the author of a New York Times bestseller and it isn't hard to see why. This is an intense, raw and totally absorbing read. It is the story of Tiger Tolliver, who narrates, a sixteen-year-old whose current problems are that her overprotective mother makes her wear second hand clothes, until her world suddenly falls apart when her mom unexpectedly dies.

Glasgow has cleverly structured the story into three sections, 'Before', 'After' and 'Now'. The longest section by far is 'After'. It is a day by day account of not only a frantic rollercoaster ride of emotion but also of bewildering decisions a sixteen-year-old isn't prepared for. These include planning a funeral and collecting death certificates. And, not surprisingly, Tiger cannot get the last words she shouted at her mother out of her head. …
