Scottish Courage, the UK's biggest brewer, has named insider John Botia as its new brands director for its leading lager brands.

The move ends a five-month search for a replacement for Jerry Goldberg, who went to head sales and marketing at Center Parcs, one of parent company Scottish & Newcastle's leisure businesses.

Botia will head marketing for the Foster's and Miller brands, which make up 10% of the UK beer market. Scottish Courage's other key brands are Beck's, John Smith's and Kronenbourg 1664.

Botia, formerly marketing manager for Foster's, will report to UK marketing director Colin Wood. He joined Scottish Courage in June 1994 and has worked on brands such as Beck's, Kronenbourg and Holsten Export. He previously handled Timotei and Pears at Unilever.

Miller's advertising is handled by Rainey Kelly Campbell, which continues to run a TV campaign based on the French film Delicatessen.

Foster's is handled by M&C Saatchi, which created its 'No Worries' campaign last year. Scottish Courage spent almost [pounds]27m on ads last year (MMS). …
