PEOPLE ON THE MOVE WITHIN THE INDUSTRY

International Data Corp. has announced the addition of Susan Feldman as the new director of document and content technologies research. In this position, she will provide guidance to customers on the many current and future technology investment and positioning considerations related to content management, covering intranets, extranets, and the Internet.

Feldman is founder and president of Datasearch, an independent consulting company with such notable clients as the U.S. Senate, the Illinois State Library, and H.W. Wilson. In addition, she is an accomplished speaker and writer. Her articles have appeared in publications such as Searcher, Online magazine, Information Today, and The Information Advisor.

She brings more than 30 years of experience to this position, with past accomplishments that include being the first editor of the IEEE Computer Society's Digital Library News and a president and founding member of the Association of Independent Information Professionals (AIIP).

OCLC has announced that it has named a new director of product marketing for OCLC Library Resources. In his new position, Robert Van Volkenburg will be responsible for providing market and product analysis to support the continued growth of OCLC's cataloging services.

Van Volkenburg joined the company in 1988 and held various positions, most recently as manager of market analysis and pricing. According to the company, his accounting and business background has played an important role in his endeavors. Before his career at OCLC, Van Volkenburg was cost accountant at Medex in Hilliard, Ohio.

He is a graduate of the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, and holds a master's degree in business administration from Capital University.

RoweCom has announced that Dan Tonkery has been appointed president of Faxon, RoweCom's Academic and Medical Services. His new responsibilities will encompass Faxon's sales, marketing, and subscription operations.

According to the announcement, Tonkery brings to this position many years of experience in the medical and academic library communities. Starting his career at the National Library of Medicine as chief of technical services, he later became the associate university librarian for technical services and systems at University of California--Los Angeles. Further experiences include senior management, sales, and marketing positions at Faxon, Readmore, and Dawson. Most recently, he was responsible for global marketing for the Dawson organization.

Tonkery serves as president of the North American Serials Interest Group (NASIG) and is a member of the board of the Council on Library and Information Resources. He holds an M.L.S. from the University of Illinois.

The Internet Publishing Group, Inc. has announced that James C. Furlong is the new executive editor and chief of editorial operations for IPGDirect.
