Bauer `Stalker' May Face Charges

Dan Savage, the gay sex columnist for Slate electronic magazine who infiltrated "the Gary Bauer presidential campaign and, by his own written admission, tried to infect Bauer and other staffers with a flu virus, apparently will be charged with voter fraud. The Des Moines Register reported that Savage faces felony and misdemeanor charges. Savage had said that he voted in the January caucuses in Iowa using his temporary address at a hotel in Des Moines, Iowa.

As Savage recounted his sabotage attempt in Slate, he supposed that his "plan was a little malicious -- even a little mean-spirited -- but those same words describe the tactics used by Bauer and the rest of the religious right against gays and lesbians. The amount of gay-bashing that goes on during Republican campaigns is staggering, so pervasive that the mainstream media tune it out like so much white noise."

Savage was forthright about his actions, saying that "much as it pains me to confirm a hateful stereotype of gay men -- we will put anything in our mouths -- I started licking doorknobs. …
