Tesco Names Chief for Rebranded Online Shop

Tesco has named David Clements as chief marketer for Tesco.com, the rebranded e-commerce business it spun off from its main operation this Tuesday (April 11).

At its annual results, Tesco announced that it would spend about [pounds]35m this financial year to further develop its [pounds]125m home shopping business. The Tesco Direct operation, which it has rebranded as Tesco.com, will be run separately from the bricks-and-mortar retailer.

The supermarket chain also reported group pre-tax profit up 10.8% to [pounds]933m on group sales of over [pounds]20bn.

Clements, who was previously Tesco's head of local marketing, will report to the new chief executive of Tesco.com, John Browett, who was previously a Tesco strategy director, and chief operating officer Carolyn Bradley, a former Tesco marketer who was most recently director of e-commerce. Helen Bridgett, who previously headed marketing for Tesco Direct, moved to gardening web site Greenfingers.com last month (Marketing, March 23). …
