AS I BEGIN MY TERM AS PRESIDENT OF RIMS, I look at the coming year with great anticipation and excitement. On the agenda is a difficult but vital task for everyone in the Society: the reinvention of RIMS. We can use the acronym, R-I-M-S, to highlight the areas of needed focus.

RELEVANT. If RIMS is to achieve its objectives of being "the leading association for risk management" and "the leading authority on risk management issues," it needs to become more relevant. We must deliver relevant programming and educational offerings in a timely manner. We have made great strides with the media regarding our expertise, but our goal is to have all of our members look to RIMS as the relevant authority on risk management issues.

INCLUSIVE. There are those who would be eager to volunteer within the Society, but because of the constraints of time, distance, expense and the pressures of work, they no longer enjoy the personal or professional benefits that flow from service to RIMS. We need to be more inclusive, highlighting to our membership the value of serving the Society.

MEMBERSHIP. The environment in which the risk management profession operates is changing dramatically. …
