ITV in Line for Euro 2000 [Pounds]25m Boost

ITV stands to net [pounds]25m in extra ad revenue this month on the back of Euro 2000-and that figure could rise substantially if England progresses in the competition.

Advertisers such as Smirnoff, Nike, Adidas, Excite and Hyundai have already bought into airtime around the event, which begins on Saturday June 10 with Belgium versus Sweden.

ITV sales houses are reporting strong interest from beers, cars and dotcom brands in linking with the event.

It expects to generate [pounds]5m-[pounds]6m alone from the England versus Portugal game on June 12, to which it has exclusive rights, and is predicting an audience of 15 million.

A 30-second spot is estimated to be going for [pounds]300,000 compared with [pounds]80,000 for a normal network peak spot.

The key England versus Germany game is being shown live on both ITV and BBC, but the commercial broadcaster is still expecting premium ad rates. …
