Maxim names new editor in chief

Keith Blanchard, Maxim editor and group creative director for Dennis Publishing, was appointed editor in chief of the fast-growing men's title. Blanchard takes over from Mike Soutar, who resigned in April. Under Soutar's supervision, Maxim more than doubled its paid circulation, bringing its ratebase up to two million for 2000.

In addition to being creative director for Dennis Publishing's titles, Blanchard also oversaw the creative for brand extensions such as Maxim Online, the company's direct mail book division and nascent TV operations. He will continue to manage the whole brand of Maxim. Blanchard has been with the magazine since its American launch in 1996, starting as deputy editor. In 1998, after serving as acting editor of Maxim for a couple of months, he shifted over to launch the U.S. edition of Stuff.

Prior to joining Dennis Publishing, Blanchard was involved with the launch of Marie Claire in the United States. He was also involved with the relaunch of YM in the late eighties.
