M&C Saatchi Wins Sainsburv's Site

Sainsbury's has handed advertising for its forthcoming food and drink portal, Taste for Life, to M&C Saatchi after confirming that Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO will be its lead agency in future.

M&C will create advertising for the portal -- a joint venture with Carlton Communications -- as well as for Sainsbury's home-shopping venture, Sainsbury's To You.

Work is expected to break in July. Media for the online projects has yet to be decided but Sainsbury's promises a significant spend. Sainsbury's has announced it aims to extend its home-shopping coverage to 60% of the population by 2001.

The move is being viewed by observers as a consolation prize for M&C Saatchi, which handled Sainsbury's TV ads for a year after winning the business from AMV.

Marketing director Sara Weller confirmed the move this week, saying that M&C Saatchi would be used as a 'roster agency' in future. …
