The Association's Associations: LAMA Is on the Move
The Library Administration and Management Association (LAMA) is leadership. And advocacy, management, education, research, partnering, publishing, diversity, and recognition of achievement.
LAMA identifies, encourages, and nurtures tomorrow's leaders. LAMA recognizes that its members and other leaders face constant change--technological, economic, political, and cultural. Success in managing a dynamic environment is foremost and LAMA meets this challenge with the tools and support leaders need.
Setting the course
LAMA's Strategic Plan, 1999-2004, sets the course for the association in advocacy, education, diversity, research, and leadership. Advocacy includes promoting "best practices" in the management of libraries. Education includes partnering with other divisions and associations to ensure quality programming and the publication of timely works. Diversity means reaching the broadest possible audience with programs and activities. Research encourages scholarship on leadership and management issues. Leadership means advancing the development of future library leaders and ensuring meaningful experiences for those who accept a leadership role.
Vision, mission, reality
The first LAMA National Institute--Vision, Mission, Reality--takes place Nov. 30 in Palm Springs, California. In partnership with 3M Library Systems, the National Institute assembles renowned speakers for a learning experience. Five program tracks--information communities, infrastructure, your library of the future, marketing, and organizational effectiveness--offer an in-depth examination of the challenges that face libraries and librarians in today's world. …
