Article excerpt

I am honored to assume the role as your National Chairman for the upcoming year. Having just attended the Annual Credit Congress in Baltimore, I am renewed by the level of professionalism displayed by those who were in attendance, energized by the quality and depth of the educational sessions offered, and ready to face the challenges presented by our new e-economy. Most importantly, I am encouraged by progress we have made during the past few months to resolve the political issues that existed within the NACM organization to move it-both NACM-National and its nationwide network of NACM Affiliates--ahead, In Baltimore, there was a sense of renewal in the air. You, the NACM member, expressed your need for your organization to change and to grow with you and to support your professional needs.

After many months of work, I am pleased to report that your National Board of Directors approved several changes to the NACM National Bylaws during its annual meeting in June. The primary focus of the changes to the Bylaws, as requested by local Affiliate Board Chairmen, was to give you a greater role in both the selection and election of National Directors. The composition of the National Nominating Committee was changed to include an equal number of National Board members and local Affiliate Chairmen, providing a clear balance of the voices heard on this important committee. The most significant change made was to the process of the election of National Directors; every NACM member of record will cast a vote to elect National Directors. Next spring, you will elect, by ballot vote, both the National Directors from your region and those who are Directors-at-Large to represent you on the National Board.

Committees are a key part of every association, providing you with a forum to express ideas and carve out the path and direction of your organization. We redefined our committee structure, terms of service and created defined missions and goals for each, all to bring a renewed level of participation and responsibility to our National Committees.

NACM-National rolled out a new design for its national web site, which places a new emphasis on membership and services at both the national and local level. NACM-National's web site provides you a host of tools--there are links to information and services on the Useful Sites page, job postings in the Career Center, a new online CBA designation practice exam, a new online Professional Designation holder's lookup directory--all designed to enhance your professional network and provide you with access to information that is critical to your success.

NACM-National released a new national membership marketing brochure, available to every NACM Affiliated Association at no cost. We will focus on rebuilding our membership, which has declined by more than 10,000 members in past decade, and have committed to assisting with a nationwide marketing campaign. I urge each and every one of you to "think membership" during the coming year to help with increasing our membership. …
