Sheila J. Malech, 66, former school librarian, circulation manager at the Worthington (Ohio) Public Library, and computer system librarian at the Westerville (Ohio) Public Library, died July 18. Rollin P. Marquis, 74, who as chief librarian of the City of Dearborn, Michigan, oversaw the finalization of plans for and the construction there of the Henry Ford Centennial Library, died May 19 in Dearborn.

Kathryn Plosia, 90, who retired in 1990 as director of the East Rutherford (NJ.) Memorial Library, died July 16. Neal Harlow, Librarian and Historian, Dies at 92

Neal Harlow, a librarian for 35 years who published five volumes on the history of California that are greatly prized by collectors and archivists, died July 13 at his home. He was 92 years old and lived in Los Angeles.

Harlow started out in 1934 in the Bancroft Library at the University of California/Berkeley, and retired in 1969 as dean of the Rutgers University Graduate School of Library Service in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He also held positions at the California State Library in Sacramento, Powell Library at the University of California/Los Angeles, and the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, the Los Angeles Times reported July 20.

Harlow's principal works were his 1982 California Conquered: War and Peace on the pacific 1846-1850; The City of he Angels and the City of the Saints, published by the Huntington Library in 1978; and a trilogy of books of historical maps of California that panned four decades.

He was active in librarians' organizations, serving as president of the Canadian Library Association and of the Association of College and Research Libraries and as a member of he ALA Council.
