Glamour Hires JWT for [Pound]5m UK Launch

Conde Nast has awarded the [pound]5m ad business for the UK launch of US women's mag Glamour to J Walter Thompson and Optimedia.

JWT beat M&C Saatchi in a pitch for the work, which Conde Nast describes as the biggest women's mag launch in more than 13 years. Optimedia fought off Carat and MindShare for the media work.

An integrated campaign will launch early next year, including TV and press ads, before the first issue hits the newsstands on March 8.

The [pound]5m first-year spend is part of a wider [pound]15m marketing push for the magazine.

Conde Nast, which has extended a number of its US titles to the UK, including Vanity Fair and Conde Nast Traveller, hopes to establish a readership of 200,000 in Glamour's first year.

Glamour sells more than two million copies a month in the US, where it launched in 1939. It has also become one of Italy's top three women's monthlies following its launch there in 1992. …
