Surely, eventually, Blair will get the message. Mandelson must go. The vast majority of Labour members, MPs and Cabinet ministers all distrust him and think Blair is crazy to keep him on. I've never understood why Blair seems to have a blind spot as far as Mandelson goes, but he does and that's why I have long odds on him going in the near future.

But, as time goes on, even Blair must come to realise that Mandelson's poisonous personality makes him the cancer at the heart of the government. When this man was finally forced to quit nearly two years ago, every Cabinet minister and civil servant will tell you privately that a new atmosphere was temporarily created in Whitehall. I say temporarily, because the backbiting all started again when Mandelson came back. …
