Bass Divides Control of Restaurants from Pubs

Bass, the hospitality group which recently sold its brewing arm to Interbrew, has split the management of its pub and restaurants division, Bass Leisure Retail, into two arms.

Bass Leisure Retail is now comprised of two units: pubs and bars, which includes O'Neill's, Edward's, Vintage Inns, and student bar It's A Scream; and restaurants, including Harvester and Toby.

Adam Fowle, previously head of bars and venues, becomes managing director of pubs and bars, while Tony Hughes retains his title of managing director of restaurants, reporting directly to the board.

Adam Martin, who has been marketing director for the division for the past four years, retains his responsibilities, although he will report to Hughes.

The split follows the promotion of the division's chief executive, Tim Clarke, to group chief executive.

Clarke takes over from Sir Ian Prosser, who previously held the dual role of chairman and chief executive and stays on as chairman. …
