Hilton Hotels Promotes UK Chief to Global Role

Hilton International, the Hilton Group's hotels division, has promoted its UK marketing chief Mike Ashton to the global position of senior vice-president of marketing, and is considering appointing a worldwide ad agency for the first time in more than a year.

Ashton, who was group marketing director at Stakis Hotels when it was acquired by Hilton in May last year, will report to Hilton International's chief executive, Anthony Harris.

Hilton has not had a board-level marketer for more than a year, since the departure of David Scowsill, the senior vice-president of marketing, sales and IT.

Ashton said he would "take a long hard look at what made Hilton the biggest hotel brand in the world". This could involve the appointment of a global agency, a strategy Hilton abandoned after parting company with Delaney Fletcher Bozell last year.

The company's annual marketing spend is at least [pound]10m, of which 40% to 50% goes on advertising. …
