Use Internet resources to give kids a fun introduction to how money is saved and spent with a unit created by Benae Lambright, technology resource teacher with the Orange, New Jersey, Board of Education Dept. of Special Programs.

First, take students on a virtual tour of the U.S. Treasury Department at http:// www.ustreas.gov. The site will teach them about how money is spent, what happens with their parents' tax dollars, how counterfeit money is identified, the history of money and tips on starting a business.

Next, try the Change Maker Game, at http://www.funbrain.com/cashreg/ index.html. Students use their subtraction skills to make change after purchasing a particular item. Each student is given a purchase price and the amount that would be given to the cashier. The kids use their math skills to figure out the amount of change that would be given, and choose which denominations of money would be used. …
