Northern California School District Selects Kelly to Supply Substitute Teachers

Temporary personnel staffing giant Kelly Services, which earlier in the year hung a shingle out offering to broker substitute teachers, recently signed a contract to provide substitutes to northern California's Aspire Public Schools for this school year. The nonprofit Aspire Public Schools has sires in Oakland, North Stockton and Modesto and is the third school system in California to ink a deal with Kelly Services. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The move comes less than a year after the company created the Kelly Educational Staffing division, which the company established to rake advantage of the teacher shortages affecting the nation's schools ("Kelly Adds Substitute Teachers to Its Roster," CURRICULUM ADMINISTRATOR, January 2000, p. 15). Kelly Services claims its staffing helps ease the burden of substitute teacher program management for school administrators, which makes finding a job easier for qualified substitute teachers.

In a prepared statement, Kendra Barr, principal at the Oakland Campus of Aspire Public Schools, said the school signed with Kelly Services to free her to concentrate on more important matters. …
