The idea for an intranet came after The Team was briefed to develop an effective paper-based internal communications system for Going Places for 4,500 staff. Because of the scale of the project and the cost implications of updating and sending out material regularly, The Team concluded that an on-line system would be far more effective, efficient and flexible and subsequently they re-wrote the brief.

The system had to work in harmony with Going Places' existing booking system, it had to reflect the brand values and it had to be easy to use and appeal to all staff, regardless of their computer literacy. Live Wire meets all of these criteria. The design was inspired by Going Places visual identity -- bright, colourful and synonymous with fun. The graphics, icons and colourways of the site give it visual appeal, to attract and retain the attention of the user and the information itself is delivered consistently and regularly, in three categories: business critical, need to know and nice to know. …
