Garden and Nursery Touring on Maui

Article excerpt

Maui visitors have an other-than-beach option: nursery and garden touring. Many of the island's public gardens and nurseries lie high on the Kula slope along the route to the top of Haleakala-or on the lush Hana side.

At display gardens, you can observe tropical plants in natural settings. Certified nurseries sell plants you can legally take or ship to the Mainland.

Only plants grown in a nonsoil, sterile mix can be shipped. All plants with roots must be certified nematode-free. Hand-carried plants must be inspected and certified before your flight home. Don't bring back any fruits except pineapples.

Five certified nurseries
