PTI Transportation Task Force Meets in Miami

Public Technology, Inc.'s (PTI) Urban Consortium Transportation Task Force (UCTrTF) conducted its fall meeting in Miami Beach, Fla., recently. NLC's Transportation Infrastructure & Services (TIS) Steering Committee members Doug Alexander, councilmember in Atlanta, Ga., and Dale Pope, council president in Everett, Wash., attended the meeting.

PTI's Urban Consortium (UC) is a network of the largest cities and counties in PTI's membership, and it promotes technology sharing among urban governments. The UCTrTF, which focuses on transportation, is one of five task forces under the Urban Consortium. The UC encourages mutually beneficial partnerships with private industry efforts and federal and state governments. Partner organizations may contribute financial and technical support to overall task force activities and to specific research and development. In many ways, the UCTrTF serves as PTI's equivalent of NLC's TIS Policy Committee

The UCTrTF's Miami meeting involved a partnership with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The purpose of the meeting was to aid FHWA in its understanding of the current status of transportation operations at the local level. FHWA's presentation included a draft survey to identify local operations and management issues, such as signal timing and incident management. The survey defines transportation operations and management as "all actions necessary for the proper functioning of the transportation network and intermodal connections."

Task force members were asked to comment on the survey and to identify missing components. …
