Bertelsmann online (BOL) is to make its debut on digital TV by becoming a content provider on interactive TV platform Open.

From this week, Open customers will have access to a BOL store in Open's interactive shopping mall, which will initially offer books, CDs, DVD/videos and will extend to include computer games and software, The store will enable customers to select books by subject as well as from categories such as children's and the 'best of the best'.

The CD and DVD sections will provide consumers with a range of different genres and selections such as artist of the week and top ten lists. As part of the launch package, BOL has signed up to Open's current promotion of half-price number ones, which offers consumers 50% off two top books, CDs or DVD videos.

The store is an extension of BOL's internet retail business, which has online stores in more than ten countries worldwide and claims to provide access to over five million book titles, 50,000 DVDs or videos and 800,000 CDs. …
