Forty-nine years ago, Liz Sheridan (the TV actress who played Jerry's mother on Seinfeld) met and fell in love with James Dean. In her recent book, Dizzy and Jimmy: My Life with James Dean, she reminisces about their affair. The recollections are sweet and maybe a little gushy, but, as Sheridan explained recently, "that's what first love is and if [readers] don't know that, then I feel sorry for them."

It was 1951. The statuesque, twenty-two-year-old brunette was a dancer in New York when she first laid eyes on the young star-to-be. At that time, Dean--not yet twenty--wasn't the screen icon he is today, but a shy, struggling actor, always looking for work and a place to crash.

"He was a cute, adorable oddball, kind of a bum," Sheridan says. "And he was shy. He wouldn't look you directly in the eye and he had this `gosh-golly' way about him."

Within four days they had declared their love for each other, and within the week they were roommates. Shortly after, Dean confessed to a sexual encounter with a male Hollywood producer. …
