Lynne Cutler, a librarian in the history/literature section of the Oakland (Calif.) Public Library who has volunteered as the service coordinator for the disabled for several years, has been named the city's Employee of the Year.

* Chicago Public Library Commissioner Mary Dempsey was given the Motorola Excellence in Public Service Award at a ceremony October 19.

* Shirley Fitzgibbons, associate professor emerita at the School of Library and Information Science at Indiana University, is this year's winner of the Service Award of the Association for Library and Information Science Education.

* For her "commitment to improving customer service and internal operations at the San Francisco Public Library and for her outstanding leadership on the development of an ambitious strategic plan," Susan Hildreth, acting SFPL director, was named one of six recipients of a city Public Managerial Excellence Awards for 2000.

* Jane B. Robbins, dean of the School of Information Studies at Florida State University in Tallahassee, has been chosen to receive the annual Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) Award for Professional Contribution to Library and Information Science Education. …
