Russell Crewe: You do the math

WHEN IT COMES TO PLAYING GAY, Russell Crowe apparently has no worries, mate. The hunky Aussie brought a guy home in 1994's The Sum of Us and bleeped our gaydar in 1991's Proof. Now Crowe juggles bisexuality, genius, and schizophrenia in DreamWorks SKG/Imagine's A Beautiful Mind, reportedly shooting now in Princeton, N.J. Crowe plays genius mathematician John Forbes Nash Jr., who won the Nobel Prize for his work on game theory--and who also had a long-suffering wife, fathered an illegitimate son, was arrested for indecent exposure, and spent three decades in and out of mental hospitals. No word yet on whether Nash's bi polarities loom large in the film.

Survivor: the movie?

SO YOU THINK Survivor 2's outback challenge looks killer? On the reality-based game show The Contenders, six strangers are armed with deadly weapons, assigned a cameraman, and unleashed upon one another. Each contestant's goal? To kill his or her opponents and be crowned champion.

No, The Contenders isn't some network's desperate Survivor rival. It's the fictional program at the core of writer-director Daniel Minahan's upcoming film Series 7, a much buzzed-about Sundance entry this year. …
