HAWAII

John Flanagan has stepped down as editor and publisher of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin to join Black Press Ltd., the company that has purchased the paper. Black Press will take over the business March 15, when the Star-Bulletin's joint operating agreement with The Honolulu Advertiser, owned by Gannett Co. Inc., is terminated. Flanagan will help prepare for the transition as well as possible expansion, which includes plans to introduce a Star-Bulletin Sunday issue. When Black Press takes control of the paper, Flanagan will become editor and publisher.

FLORIDA

Patricia San Pedro to director of Herald Event Marketing in Miami. San Pedro retains her title of vice president of community relations for The Miami Herald.

CALIFORNIA

Don Ray to editor of the Daily Press in Victorville from projects editor. Ray succeeds Richard Wagner, who resigned.

ARKANSAS

Jeff Scott to publisher of The Daily Citizen in Searcy from corporate circulation director for Citizen parent Paxton Media Group Inc. in Paducah, Ky. Scott succeeds Dina Mason, now publisher of The Paragould Daily Press.

CALIFORNIA

Timothy S. Dowd to president and publisher of The Californian in Salinas from group publisher of MediaNews Group Inc.'s North Coast Newspapers and publisher of the Times-Standard in Eureka. Dowd succeeds Linda K. Greiwe, now vice president of advertising and sales at The Arizona Republic in Phoenix.

Larry Bien to director of national accounts for Knight Ridder in San Jose from general advertising manager of the Fort Worth (Texas) Star- Telegram.

Don Holland to assistant editor of the Daily Press in Victorville. Holland will retain his current duties as city editor.

Maggie Wilderotter, CEO of Wink Communications in Alameda, elected to the board of directors of the Sacramento-based McClatchy Co.

FLORIDA

Larry Olmstead to assistant vice president for news at Knight Ridder from managing editor of The Miami Herald. Olmstead will be based both in Miami and at Knight Ridder headquarters in San Jose, Calif. The appointment is effective mid-February.

ILLINOIS

Jodi Vevoda to Chicago-based vice president of advertising sales for USA Today from regional advertising director for USA Weekend. …
