Greetings Sites Reap the Benefits of Christmas Season to Top Chart

December 2000 saw and jostle for position in the Jupiter MMXI internet audience rankings, as more and more people went online to send their Christmas cards over the festive season.

Both sites increased their reach of the UK at-home internet audience and the amount of unique visitors visiting their sites. The sites allow visitors to tailor novelty e-mails and send seasonal greetings to friends.

The biggest winner in December was, which more than doubled the number of unique visitors to its site on the previous month and shot up the service sector rankings from ninth in November to second in December. Over the same period, saw its unique visitor numbers climb from 281,000 to 500,000.

This week's analysis also looks at the hotly contested area of search/navigation sites in the UK.

The search and navigation category is less prone to seasonal change. Nevertheless, is making its presence felt. In the three months to December 2000, has seen growth of over 100,000 unique visitors, and its increase in popularity has broken Ask Jeeves' stronghold at the top of the category.

The and .com sites from AskJeeves had occupied the number one and number two spots respectively since March 2000.
