Moviegoers who saw Robert Townsend's Hollywood Shuffle will remember Wayans as the large, strongly built member of the cast who tended to play the macho roles. The question he poses in his new film is, What makes him think he can be a black hero? He's big, yes. But in I'm Gonna Git You Sucka he has come back from the Army with a chestful of medals for accomplishments such as shorthand - he served as a secretary. He is so innocent and deep- down good that the dew all but sparkles around his eyes. He cannot forget how that family of midgets used to bully him around the neighborhood.

Yet it falls to him to defeat Mr. Big and clean up the ghetto. Soon he has located all the old black heroes, played with gusto by blaxploitation veterans Bernie Casey, Isaac Hayes, Jim Brown, Antonio Fargas and Steve James. About the only one missing from the lineup is Pam Grier a considerable lack, to my mind. …
