ScotCo Marketer Moves to Top Role

Scottish Courage, the UK's biggest brewer, has appointed Tony McGrath as its new marketing director, in a reshuffle which sees incumbent Collin Wood shift to a new role as director of strategy.

McGrath will oversee a marketing spend of about [pound]33m and many of the UK's leading beer brands, including Foster's, Kronenbourg, Miller Genuine Draft, McEwan's Lager and Beck's.

McGrath moves over from Scottish Brewers, the company's northern pub sales business, where he was managing director. His career has come full circle since 1978, when he joined Scottish & Newcastle as a graduate marketing trainee.

He held a number of marketing posts within S&N until 1986, when he went to Pepsi Cola International as a senior manager in the Middle East, US and UK. Between 1991 and 1995 he was at Haagen Dazs, first as managing director, Northern Europe, and then as senior vice-president, North America.

McGrath returned to S&N as corporate affairs director in 1995, overseeing the acquisition of Courage, and a year later became managing director of Scottish Brewers. …
