Looking for funds to make an innovative technology project possible? Seeking recognition for outstanding teachers or students in your district? Here's the latest scoop on some great opportunities.

The Ayn Rand Institute sponsors annual essay contests for high school students. Essays are judged on both content and style.

In the Anthem Essay Contest, ninth- and tenth-grade students choose one of three topics on which to write an essay of 600-1,200 words. First prize is a $2,000 cash award. Additional prizes include: ten second prizes of $500 each; 20 third prizes of $200 each; 45 finalist prizes of $50 each; and 175 semifinalist prizes of $30 each. The deadline for submissions is April 2.

In The Fountainhead Essay Contest, eleventh- and twelfth-grade students choose one of three topics on which to write an essay of 800-1,600 words. First prize is a $10,000 cash award. Additional prizes include: five second prizes of $2,000 each; ten third prizes of $1,000 each; 35 finalist prizes of $100 each; and 200 semifinalist prizes of $50 each. The annual Grant for the Enhancement of Geographic Literacy from the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) awards $2,500 to an educator who is promoting geographic literacy by integrating geography into the social studies curriculum or classroom. Applications must be postmarked by March 21. The NCSS Outstanding Social Studies Teacher of the Year Awards honor one elementary (K-6), one middle (5-8), and two secondary (9-12) social studies teachers who are members of NCSS. Each award includes $2,500, a one-year NCSS membership, national publicity, and a commemorative gift. The deadline for applications is April 1. AbleNet, Inc's Inclusion Award recognizes the creative use of assistive technology in inclusive practices. The award is open to all teams who use inclusive practices in their work with individuals with severe physical or cognitive disabilities. …
