Egg Top Job Goes to Selfridges Man

Egg has hired Nick Cross, marketing director at department store Selfridges, to be its chief marketing officer after Richard Duvall's promotion to chief operating officer, international.

Cross, 38, joins the Prudential's internet banking brand in May, at a crucial time for Egg. It floated last June and is insisting it will break even by the end of this year.

He takes charge of a projected advertising and marketing budget of [pound]40m to [pound]50m for this year.

Tony Williams, brand and communications director, and Claire Stanton, head of internal communications will both report to him.

Cross has been marketing chief at Selfridges since October 1996. Before that, he was international planning director at Bartle Bogle Hegarty (Marketing, July 11, 1996). Selfridges has yet to replace him.

One of his first tasks will be to build on Egg's most recent TV ad campaign by HHCL & Partners, which shows Egg as a character who will do anything for a customer. …
