Dear Readers,

As we go to press we are unperturbed by shrill comments, such as those by Sen. Joe Lieberman, that the United States is facing a constitutional crisis. Hogwash! We as a people are seeing our republic's system of constitutional doctrines working exactly as they should and as they have during other watersheds in our remarkable history.

What brings this thought to mind is the media-promoted impression that something is broken in our election process and is in need of fixing, or that, due to breakdowns in Florida, there need to be new laws or a judicial rewrite of the principles upon which our nation was founded.

To be honest, chaos is good for the news business. It allows media to gin up stories, breathlessly pontificate and manufacture a faux sense of calamity that politicians like to rely on to fuel their own rhetoric.

Chaos also is something that the Founding Fathers fully understood and purposefully allowed for in creating our system of government. …
