Dear Readers,

Well, to paraphrase Ronald Reagan, "there he goes again." George W. Bush has gone ahead and kept a promise to help promote faith-based initiatives through government coordination and assistance.

What brings this to mind aren't naysayers, such as Barry Lynn of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, but ordinary Americans who may not know that both federal and state governments already provide more than a modicum of assistance to faith-based groups that reach out to the least among us and do good deeds.

But to many in Washington what Bush has done by creating an official office at the White House to reach out to such groups is sacrilegious. It's crossing the Rubicon between church and state! Good grief, the mere mention of God in public schools, the hanging of the Ten Commandments, heck even Santa Claus is cause for concern to these Chicken Littles of the left.

We find this demonizing of faith distressful and contrary to the foundations upon which this country was built. …
